Risun Wei Shan Indonesia, a subsidiary of Chinese integrated coke, coking chemicals and refined chemicals producer China Risun Group Limited, successfully delivered the first batch of coke on July 19 at its facility in the Indonesia Morowali Industrial Park (IMIP), Central Sulawesi province.
This landmark project not only stands as Indonesia’s largest-scale coking venture but also represents the most substantial overseas coking project contracted by Chinese enterprises.
Upon full commissioning, the total annual coke production capacity is expected to reach an impressive 4.8 million tonnes, with 3.2 million tonnes anticipated to be operational by the end of this year.
The project comprises six coking batteries, each equipped with 66 charging holes. The first coking battery, with an annual capacity of 800,000 tonnes, initiated its heating-up process on April 8. Subsequently, three other coking batteries are scheduled to commence production in the upcoming months, each with an annual production capacity of 800,000 tonnes.
The implementation of the project includes a comprehensive coal gas purification system, and it adopts Risun Equipment’s proprietary 7.1-meter large-capacity top-charging coke oven technology. This innovation results in an impressive 8% to 10% reduction in energy consumption compared to the industry average.
With an investment of $830 million, the project is geared towards producing two grades of coke. Grade I features a moisture content of 5%, CSR (coke strength after reaction) of 65%, CRI (coke reactivity index) of 25%, ash content of 12%, sulfur content of 0.6%, VM (volatile matter) of 1.3%, and granularity ranging from 30 to 90 mm. Meanwhile, Grade II showcases a moisture content of 5%, CSR of 62%, CRI of 28%, ash content of 12.5%, sulfur content of 0.65%, VM of 1.3%, and granularity also ranging from 30 to 90 mm.
Risun assumes the role of the major shareholder, with non-controlling shareholders including Tsingshan, Delong, Shagang, Nangjing Steel, and Zhongwei Group participating in this significant project.
