Canada exported 3.39 million tonnes of coal in April, up 2.60% year on year but down 4.94% month on month, official statistics showed.
The export volume was worth $1.20 billion over the month, falling 23.67% from a year ago and 9.53% from a month ago.
Japan was Canada’s largest coal export destination in April, with shipment at 1.29 million tonnes, up 84.10% on the year and 5.33% on the month. This is followed by South Korea, at 742,800 tonnes, up 6.33% from the year prior and surging 133.22% from March.
Coal exports to China reached 584,400 tonnes, up 61.84% from a year earlier but down 34.49% from the month prior.
In January-April, Canada’s coal exports totaled 12.81 million tonnes, up 1.86% from the same period last year, and export value dropped 10.96% on the year to $4.49 billion.
